Edward Tran’s work is defined by a naturalistic yet bold visual style, grounded in available light, authentic texture, and an observational approach to storytelling. "I fell into filmmaking by accident — I sat in on a film class as a graphic design major, dropped out the following semester, and headed to art school, where I discovered cinematography.
His work spans documentary-style filmmaking, commercials, music videos, and branded content. His projects include the Souls music video series, the Golden State Warriors' "The City Calls" jersey reveal, a Buchanan's Pineapple campaign featuring Omar Apollo, a Modelo commercial with footballers Raúl Jiménez and Edson Álvarez, and Legion x Swift's "This Is How We Do It." Among these, Souls remains especially meaningful: Edward traveled with a three-person team through Los Angeles, Albuquerque, New Orleans, and Detroit, shooting handheld, pulling his own focus, and capturing the people, places, and textures that gave each city its distinct character. That experience reflects what he loves most about cinematography—entering real environments, reading the available light, and discovering images and perspectives that might otherwise go unnoticed.
Away from set, Edward finds inspiration through travel, nature, food, and photography, rarely going anywhere without a small camera in his pocket. When he's not shooting, he can be found riding bikes, cooking, playing instruments, or learning his way around cars. Ultimately, Edward is drawn to filmmaking that feels lived-in rather than manufactured, and his dream is to combine his passions for cinematography, travel, food, and human connection in a project inspired by Anthony Bourdain's No Reservations—exploring the world through the meals people share and the stories they tell.
